Velma and Daphne Style File

The girls of the teenage detective team Mystery Incorporated play vital roles, Velma as the brains, Daphne as the damsel for the villains to capture (and sometimes to kick a bit of butt, too). Both have distinctive styles that carry through the various incarnations of Scooby-Doo.

Velma
Velma (the one in orange) is the 'geek' of the group and meant to be dreadfully unstylish. This results in a great example of Girl Detective wear so ugly it's cute.

Velma pairs an orange turtleneck, a red skirt, knee-high orange socks and red mary janes. Topped off with thick glasses, cropped hair and freckles, Velma is meant to be the height of nerdy -- but in 2014, Geek Is Chic, and Velma is the chicest of them all. She even sports a Lindsay Weir jacket in "What's New Scooby-Doo? Frighthouse of a lighthouse!"

Daphne
Where Velma is the geek, Daphne is the fashionista of Mystery Inc. Her style retains its sixties influences even in the modern version: purple minidress, stockings, chunky-heeled loafers, and long eyelashes.

Daphne shows her girliness through a purple-and-pink colour scheme, dark berry lipstick, accessories (she's rarely without her scarf and her headband), and luscious, wavy hair.

Despite their different personalities and interests, Velma and Daphne are brought together by their love of crimestopping and monster hunting (well, okay, sometimes Daphne has to be dragged along for the ride).

There are about a thousand tv series and direct-to-video movies of Scooby-Doo, as well as two live-action films. You can read about them all on Wikipedia, and don't forget to check out my sets on Polyvore!
