Nancy Drew Style File

Nancy Drew is the quintessential Plucky Girl Detective. She is known for her quick thinking, courage, and always carrying a torch in her handbag.

In the 1977 tv series "The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries", Nancy’s classic look is adapted for the seventies.

This Nancy can usually be found in high-waisted, wide-legged pants or skirts and tight shirts.

She frequently wears knitted tops (especially turtlenecks), and collared shirts. These give her a sophisticated look, suitable to her image as a more "grown up" girl detective.

Nancy is a massive fan of neckties and sports them in all colours and styles.

She also loves hats and capes.

Nancy tends to favour neutral colours but is also a big fan of reds and corals. The fear of clashing with her hair means nothing to this brave heroine. Nancy shows her organised nature through coordinated colour schemes.

Nancy wears little jewellery and, like many Plucky Girl Detectives, keeps her shoes sensible: leather with chunky heels.

Seventies Nancy keeps her hair short and wavy with lots of volume. She wears soft dark eyeliner (sometimes in a bluish shade) and pale, slightly glossy lips.

The Nancy of the 1977 tv series is stylish and put-together. You can buy the DVDs on Amazon (she features in every second episode for the first two seasons, and sporadically for the third), or watch many of the episodes on Youtube. I have made a few sets for Nancy here on Polyvore.
